So, the various business units are allowed to create controlled data transformations (MVOT) for reporting as long as the data can be reliably mapped back to SSOT. Thus, SSOT branches out from MVOT without compromising on the data consistency. This could be a sound approach for huge organizations with a presence in wide and varied business sectors. 

    Naturally, the accountability for the data management will not lie with a single data officer in this case but each business vertical will have its own CDO. This hybrid method may appear straight-forward conceptually but implementation takes robust data control, standards, governance, and technology. SSOT ensures tight control of the data while MVOT adds flexibility to the way the data is managed. It is the responsibility of the top management to dynamically adjust between the two and find the right balance.

    To sum it all up, the Single Source of Truth strategy of data management brings together the company’s various departments to work in line towards achieving the company’s vision, long-term goals, and the big picture. With proper configuration, quality data and the right tools, this approach has proven to be highly-efficient, fail-proof, and ensures healthy utilization of data.     I’m sure you are aware of the Covid-19 outbreak in various countries. Businesses are struggling and some businesses even shut down. For those businesses that are still alive, the employers are laying off staffs or forcing them to take unpaid leaves until further notice.

    For those who are just earning enough to survive and living from one paycheque to another in Malaysia, they are in pain … the pain is not bearable and I understand. I saw my friends and past colleagues being either laid off or given retrenchment with a mere 24 hours notice.

    What should they do? Go to labour office and make a report? Yes, maybe.

    But, that doesn’t solve the problem. The problem lies is time. You are out of work for 15 to 30 days (or more) and you need to find the right resources to get your money back to put food on the table.

    Lockdown By The Malaysian Government Isn’t Always A Bad Thing

    I live in Malaysia and the government had issued a partial lockdown from 18th March 2020 until 31st March 2020. A partial lockdown means:

    • No gathering more than 10 people at one time
    • Reduced movement (movement control for all citizens)
    • No one can use the highway for travel
    • Hotels do not accept any check-ins from 18th March onwards

    I got over a dozen emails from various food delivery services in Malaysia yesterday—promoting their latest offers and deals.

    The government had been clear than while you cannot dine-in, you can always take away. Added with the fear of Covid-19, food deliveries will grow far and wide.

    How can you leverage from this?

    1. Apply for GrabFood or FoodPanda
    2. Head over to any local restaurants and cafes and ask if they have short term job opportunities

    Provide A Service (And Earn Commission From It)

    This is a little unconventional but it may work.

    The country is in partial lockdown and people are afraid (okay, majority of them). So, how can this benefits you?

    By offering services that people dearly needs BUT are afraid of doing.

    Let me tell you a story. A friend of mine was retrenched (ouch) and he decided to provide ‘kirim’ services for his neighbours. He will head over to the local supermarket and get things his neighbours need.

    He will take a small portion of commission for the work done.

    Now, the commission will not be something big that you can shout out, but it is decent enough for you to survive for a day or two.
